Inspiring Talk: Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar, CAE,2008

Kaleidoscopic Learning: Looking at Learning through different Lessons.

I am at the conference at Fairfiled University, CT. CAE. "Integration, Learning,Community: Pedagogy, Technology It is my third time coming to the Center for Academic Excellence. I love it. I enjoy the interactive nature of the conference, open-mindness and innovative spirit of the discussions. Today's convention's keynote speaker is the Director of Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning of the University of Central Florida. She started her talk with the video clip "5 Minute University," that I often use in my classes. It was a good warming up exercise to generate the discussion and set up the tone for her presentation. She is very passionate about the topic and engaging. The most significant part of Alison's presentation is sharing of the strategies. Again, I find it interesting to find the similarity in using the same methods and approaches. Strategies that work: one minute papers/pass to class/muddiest point; Drawing for understanding; Use of pictures. A question: grading. Some professors do not grade the papers. More coming... Have to get ready to my presentation/workshop.
